Did you know that Christopher Ginn Photography offers a complimentary engagement session with every wedding package booked? It’s true! Engagement sessions are important to have prior to your wedding day for several reasons. (Especially if you or your partner are a bit camera shy!)
Here are just a handful of reasons I believe engagement sessions are crucial to the wedding photography experience.
One: You get to interact with your photographer prior to your wedding day.
Building a relationship with your photographer is key to getting the best of the best when it comes to pictures. Believe it or not, if you don’t feel comfortable with your photographer, it’ll show in your pictures.
Not only do you end up with better pictures, but this one-on-one time with your photographer allows you time to voice your concerns without family and friends around. Family dynamics can just be downright tough so getting to address problem areas during your engagement session with you photographer will help you feel more at peace before your wedding day.
Two: You learn how to pose for the camera.
Remember how I mentioned engagement sessions are important especially if you find yourself being camera shy? This point covers why.
Not only do you learn how to warm up to the camera, but as your photographer, I also learn what cues and poses are most helpful and flattering for you as a couple. Then, when it comes to your actual wedding day I’m able to restate those cues and same poses. This also helps your wedding photos run smoother because you’re already a pro at what to do.
Three: You get to talk about the logistics of your wedding day.
Not only do you get to voice any concerns and family dynamics with your photographer during your session, but you’ll also get to walk through what to expect on your wedding day. We always do a follow-up call prior to your day as well to review all of our wedding day plans. But this is a great time to mention certain pictures you want as a couple and talk about the timeline of the day.
Four: Engagement sessions are the perfect excuse for a date day.
I love when couples make date days out of their engagement session. Whether they go for lunch or dinner afterward or even go to start their wedding registry together, it’s a perfect opportunity to spend quality time together. Quite often, I find myself going out for dinner and drinks with my couples to keep chatting about life and wedding plans. It’s always a great time!
Five: You’ll receive photos to display at your wedding or within your first home.
Couples often love using their engagement sessions for their Save the Dates. They also make great additions to use for your guestbook, wedding decor, and display well within your first home. I’ve even seen couples use them for Christmas cards!
I’ll never get over seeing couples print their engagement weddings and wedding pictures. It makes what I do, all the more worth it.
